Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche's birthday is celebrated on July 4 every year. Today, his birthday luncheon-and-cake party was held in the dining room in the new building, parts of which are still under construction.
The dining room is lovely—a long, big room with banks of windows that look out onto the beautiful trees that surround the monastery.
I was part of the cleanup crew for the event, so after I had finished doing my part sweeping the floor, I was able to achieve one of my goals for the day—getting the picture, above, that gives a glimpse of the spaciousness and beauty of the room. Having Karmapa's picture there, along with birthday decorations, makes an even better photo.
I will post more about a spontaneous celebration of Khenpo's birthday before this morning's teachings after I can get some new batteries for my camera (again!).
